Cumbria and Lancashire Merger

Following on from the call off of the Cumbria and Lancashire Constabulary merger and the Cumbria and Lancashire Criminal Justice Board merger, it should be noted that the Police are still looking to improve joint working for protective services and a meeting is being held on the 19.9.06 with the five North West Forces and Wales in this respect.

It was also felt that there was an opportunity for Lancashire and Cumbria Criminal Justice Board's to address collaboration issues between the two areas and utilise the findings of the original comparison analysis work undertaken by the two support teams.

Working relationships with Local Press

Editors from the key local area newspapers are to be invited to the Local Justice Awards Ceremony to raise awareness of the work being undertaken within criminal justice agencies.

A small focus group is also to be set up with Board members and local editors to foster working relationships and to raise awareness of the Board's initiatives.

MP's Circulars

LCJB circulars to be produced by the LCJB Communications Officer in the New Year for circulation to local MP's.

Racially motivated offences

CPS event held in Blackburn Community Centre on 18.7.06 to raise public awareness of CPS protocol for dealing with racially motivated offences.

To be repeated to other community groups with LCJB input and focus groups.

Conditional Cautions

Police looking to expand the conditions linked to these cautions to include unpaid work with the Probation Service.

Justice Awards

The Local Justice Awards Ceremony will be held at Barton Grange Hotel on the 28 November 2006, where those individuals and teams who were nominated for a national justice award will be recognised for their achievements.

The Daily Mirror are also assisting the Office for Criminal Justice Reform with a People's Award linked to the Justice Awards.

A specialist NHS Mental Health Trust is being created for the County. This will become a foundation organisation by 2008. The LCJB have been approached in relation to becoming a representative on the Board of Governors for the Trust.

From April 2008 Probation Trusts will be established to replace the current Probation Boards.
