Laboratory
Lancashire's Highway Laboratory was purpose built at Bamber Bridge, and was originally established to develop the motorway construction programme. The Laboratory has expanded its role to provide specialist geotechnical advice and design complimented by a full civil engineering materials consultancy and testing service for all areas of building and construction on a County wide basis. The diverse work undertaken ranges from slope stabilities, land remediation and foundations, though to recycled aggregates and trialing new blacktop surfacings. The Laboratory is both approved by UKAS for testing and operates a Quality Management System to BS. EN. ISO 9001:1994 for design.
The Highways Laboratory carry out numerous services including:

Geotechnical advice and ground investigations for the design of foundations for roads, bridges, schools and different structures, slope stability investigations, and contaminated land investigations.

Comprehensive pavement assessments including SCRIM, deflectograph, noise and vibration surveys and environment impact studies.

The sampling of materials on construction sites managed by LCC to ensure quality.

The testing of a full range of concrete, aggregate and bituminous materials.

The design and approval of materials used in construction of roads, bridges, and different structures.
