Civitas
Lancashire County Council is committed to providing an environment that encourages people to make more of their journeys on foot or by bike.
The County Council together with its partners has recently been successful in its bid to join an exciting European project called CIVITAS (City-Vitality-Sustainability) in which we will work with other European cities to encourage more walking and cycling.
The SUCCESS project is about working in an innovative manner and sharing the good practice learned between the European partners. It offers an opportunity to explore new ideas and in the case of this study to engage fully with the local community to reach a solution which is acceptable to all making a real difference to how people travel.
SUCCESS is a Partnership between La Rochelle (France), Ploiesti (Romania) and Lancashire County Council (UK) under the EU CIVITAS initiative.
As part of the Civitas Success project, the University of Central Lancashire including Fylde Road and Adelphi Street has been identified as an ideal location to encourage more walking, cycling and use of public transport. Lancashire County Council in partnership with Preston City Council, the University and equally importantly the surrounding community has examined the street scene in the area to explore areas which could be enhanced to favour walking and cycling.
