GIS for Schools Pack
The Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for schools project has been established to introduce GIS into all schools throughout Lancashire with the purpose of providing access to maps and data held by Lancashire County Council for educational purposes.
The LCC internet site MARIO has provided the main tool for delivery of the maps and data. In response to specific requests from schools the website has recently been updated and given a more educational focus with many additional tools and data layers.
GIS information packs have been put together and sent to all schools throughout the County. These packs contain a manual to provide information on getting started. There are also three CDs which provide two additional GIS programmes, Google Earth and Arcreader. 2001 Census data has been supplied for use with the Arcreader programme. Ordnance Survey map keys at various scales have been included on one of the CDs along with lesson plans for use at the various key stages.
St Gregory RC Primary School
Training sessions have been provided to support teachers using the materials which were supplied. If further training or additional GIS packs are required please contact Carol Hardbattle on 01772 534227.
