Passport to Safer Cycling

Passport To Safer Cycling

Lancashire's child cycle training scheme is entitled 'Passport To Safer Cycling'. It is modular and follows good practice by providing training that is progressive and can be developed from off-road to on-road.

The scheme is designed to enable young cyclists to develop a greater understanding of road usage and to ride with an improved degree of safety, thereby reducing the risk of road accidents. The course is available to children aged 10 and over.

The Road Safety Group provides training and support for adults who lead the course.

Making Choices student booklet

Making Choices

Useful information aimed at pupils in their transition from primary to high school (Years 6 - 7). This resource uses a contemporary, colourful booklet format and has versions for parents, teachers and pupils.

The resource gives seconary school students the opportunity to explore the issues arising out of a newspaper report of a road death, focussing mainly on Zach's role in the incident and what he could have done to prevent an unnecessary fatality and his own injuries.

They will examine their own attitudes and beliefs and develop strategies to have a positive influence on a person whose driving is making them feel uneasy.

Whose Life Is It Anyway?

An exciting resource for secondary school teachers and pupils, fully linked to the 'Citizenship' and 'PHSE' curriculum. The topics encourage the students to think about the consequences of their actions, consider the impact of road use on people and the environment, deal with bulluying and peer pressure, develop confidence and learn how to resolve conflict.

The resource comes in a handy ring binder divided into 6 themeseach containing lessson plans and suggested activities. Also includes a CD with additional resources.
