Road Safety Education will be delivered through the curriculum as part of both National Curriculum and Personal and Social Education courses of study.

A named teacher will have responsibility for Road Safety Education.

Parents

Parents have the opportunity to influence their children's attitude and behaviour on journeys to and from school.
The school will work in collaboration with parents to develop safer child pedestrian skills.
Parents will be kept up to date by a regular newsletter outlining Road Safety initiatives.
Parents to accept responsibility for parking safely and appropriately in and around the school site.

Journeys

All designated teachers driving the school minibus will have completed 'MiDAS' - The Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme.
When travelling in the school minibus or in staff/parents vehicles, pupils will wear seatbelts at all times.
The school minibus will be serviced at intervals recommended by the manufacturer.
All children will be encouraged to wear high visibility clothing on their journey to and from school.
Children should identify and adopt safe routes to school.
All pupils cycling to school must wear helmets and protective clothing.
School will provide safe storage for cycles and helmets.
Children will be encouraged to complete Lancashire County Council's Passport to Safer Cycling Scheme.
Coaches hired for the purpose of school trips/journeys must have seat belts fitted.
Parents transporting children (other than their own) on the school's behalf must ensure that they have adequate car insurance.

Management of the Policy

Nominated governors and teachers will ensure delivery of the Road Safety Policy.
Parents will be informed of progress in the termly newsletter and are welcome to contribute ideas for inclusion in the policy.
LCC Road Safety Group will advise and support the development and delivery of the School Road Safety Policy.
