School Grounds Development Guide

Step 5 - What would you like to have?

Reading Fox

Step 4 will have provided you with important baseline information on the current condition of your school grounds, how they are used, how the school community perceives them and what constraints exist. You will probably also have begun to formulate ideas of how they might be improved and developed. Formalising these ideas is the next step in the process, as before it should be co-ordinated by the School Grounds Development Group and involve all members of the school community.

In determining how you would like your school grounds to develop, it is essential to clarify what specific needs and functions the grounds will be expected to fulfil. Once this has been done you will be able to produce a 'Concept Plan' for the grounds identifying what it is that you want to achieve. From this it will be possible to start translating your proposals into more detailed plans, drawings and models, the preferred elements of which can be used to produce a ' School Grounds Improvement Plan'.

If you have not already done so you may also wish to consult with other Local Schools that have already undertaken this stage.
