Weekly activities for the under 5s

Baby Bounce and Rhyme

Many Lancashire Libraries hold weekly Baby Bounce and Rhyme Times , noisy fun sessions for babies.

The emphasis is on enjoyment, and library staff lead the singing while demonstrating the actions using soft toys and puppets. Parents and carers are encouraged to share nursery rhymes and songs with their babies. Small percussion instruments suitable for little hands are often used during the activity. The sessions are free and last around half an hour, with plenty of time afterwards for parents to have a chat and browse through the books.

Toddler Rhyme Times

Some libraries have introduced Toddler Rhyme Times as a follow on to Baby Bounce and Rhyme.

These are very similar to Baby Bounce and Rhyme Times but include two or three simple stories, along with a selection of action rhymes. Again there is no charge for these sessions.

Storytimes

Weekly free storytimes are held in most Lancashire Libraries and these include stories, rhymes and very often colouring or a simple activity.

There is no need to book for any of the above activities, just pop along on the day. Details of times can be found under individual libraries. Alternatively contact Sheila Woodburn, the Early Years Officer for Lancashire Libraries, on 01772 534669 or email sheila.woodburn@lcl.lancscc.gov.uk
