Official Unemployment Statistics for Lancashire, Districts and Sub-Regions
Age Breakdown of Females

Annual Population Survey - Labour Force Survey
(Yearly Averages - Produced Quarterly)
January 2007 to December 2007

Jump to the data:
Females Aged 16 to 24 Females Aged 25 to 49 Females Aged 50 and Over

Notes: The Lancashire figure is an amalgamation of the twelve Lancashire districts. The Lancashire NUTS-2 figure covers the broader Lancashire area and includes Blackburn with Darwen and Blackpool Unitary Authorities. (1) East Lancashire includes Blackburn with Darwen Unitary Authority, Burnley, Hyndburn, Pendle, Ribble Valley and Rossendale. (2) Lancashire West includes Blackpool Unitary Authority, Chorley, Fylde, Lancaster, Preston, South Ribble, West Lancashire and Wyre. (3) QUARTERLY CHANGE IN RATE: Please note that although the number employed may not have changed, a change in rate may have occurred owing to a change in the denominator between the two dates. NAR Not available/reliable NYA Not yet available ! Estimate and confidence interval not available since the group sample size is zero or disclosive (0-2) * Estimate and confidence interval unreliable since the group sample size is small (3-9) ~ Estimate is less than 500 § 95% confidence interval of percentage figure The Total Unemployment Numbers and associated Denominators (16+ Economically Active Populations) within the tables are rounded to the nearest 100, therefore the Unemployment Rates when calculated from rounded figures may not match the actual rates provided (which are calculated from un-rounded figures).

Reduced Coverage at the District Level and Above
The Annual Population Survey (APS) was introduced in 2004, comprising the annual LFS supplemented by an extra boost (the APS(B)), designed to obtain a sample of 500 economically active adults in each local authority district. As a cost saving measure, the APS(B) was scaled back in mid-2005 and was withdrawn from January 2006. This means that Official Unemployment data at the district level (and possibly some larger geographies for data broken down by age and gender) will no longer be available for the majority of districts in Lancashire owing to small sample sizes for the data ending in the year to March 2006. APS estimates for the April 2005 to March 2006 period onwards will therefore revert to the sample used for the previous annual local area Labour Force Survey. The last APS period which contains APS(B) cases is that covering January to December 2005, as this is the last period for which a complete year's boost is available.

Missing Datasets
Owing to a methodological error concerning the Labour Force Survey Statistics, the Office for National Statistics has delayed the publication of the July 2004 to June 2005 dataset until it can be corrected. This undertaking has caused some delay in the publication of data for subsequent quarters. Please refer to the (External) NOMIS realease dates for details.
